The Price of Pride (A Message from CEO)

Hello my dear Topazians!

If I say that “there are two types of people in GEMS BPS 05, normal people and PROUD TOPAZIANS” would you agree with me? Well, we have all the reasons to be proud. For the whole week after the market share system was introduced, our company Topaz Network Sdn Bhd. was ranked first among all the companies. We swept all the major awards at the English Fair (R.Y.T.E) event - Best Drama, Best Debate Team, Best Actress, Best Debator and Best Overall Company, taking home with us three supersized hampers and two major trophies, leaving all other seven companies to fight for all the smaller prizes. Then we got third place for the Megatrends Booth Competition despite the last minute preparation. And quite recently, we mastered the stage again and became the champion of Maal Hijrah Nasyid Competition (and according to a credible source, the calligraphy competition as well). Alhamdulillah, this company has achieved phenomenal successes within the three weeks of GEMS BPS05 programme, thanks to all.

But as the saying goes ‘Pride comes before the fall’. It has been a long and bumpy journey for Topazians during the last two weeks. Our market shares plunged down so drastically day by day that the company status went down from being ‘the one to beat’ to ‘just another company in the Paradise Stock Market’. “What have we done wrong?” We asked ourselves every time our market share dropped. While we continue to have all kinds of unresolved problems within the company, we keep asking the same question every day.

I would like to quote one of the Megatrend Conference speakers Dr Mingu Jumaan who said, “There are three types of people; First, those who MAKE things happen. Second, those who WATCH things happen. And third, those who DON’T KNOW what has happened.” We have all the three types of people in the company. I believe that as the CEO of the company, my responsibility is to be lead and motivate all company members until we have 100% ‘First Category’ people in the company. We got to MAKE things happen, rather just sit and wait for a miracle.

Dear Topazians,

We have betrayed our seven best friends. ‘Professionalism’ cried when he looked at how we performed our duties as a company staff and as a participant. ‘Excellence’ sulked looking at our post-test and personal evaluation results. ‘Self-discipline’ fainted looking at the time column in our attendance sheets. ‘Active learning’ suffered in silence listening to us speaking and chattering away all types of native languages during training sessions. ‘Teamwork’ got angry when we fight over trivial issues and refuse to cooperate with each other. ‘Innovativeness’ ran away in shame after looking at how ‘clean’ and ‘clear’ our office is. And ‘Integrity’ became suicidal at the thought of us giving all types of excuses to get away with all our mistakes.

It is time for us to ‘MUHASABAH DIRI’, as what our Young Imam, Mel from Pearl Corporation told us. Get out of our comfort zone, realise what we have done wrong and continue to improve ourselves for the next five weeks.

And yeah, best of luck to everyone for the upcoming Sports Day Events. Let us be the COMPANY TO BEAT!!
